What are you listening to?

Post by News »

Let's talk music!

What are you listening to? What upcoming releases/concerts are you excited about? What's your week's collage look like?

A few weeks ago, No/Más, a deathgrind band from D.C. my partner and I enjoy, put out a new record called 'No Peace' that we've been spinning a bunch. And of course, Converge put out 'Love Is Not Enough' in February - in anticipation of seeing them later this month it's been on constant rotation for me!

Right now though, my main obsession is Nine Inch Nails' 'Year Zero.' Unfortunately, it feels even more pertinent to today's landscape in a lot of ways than it did back in 2007

A lot of Altin Gün and Deltron the past few days but generally I always fall back to Let's Eat Grandma and all my fav prog bands.

Been really enjoying listening to whatever is on NTS when I want something new. Great way to find stuff outside of your typical genres

Mostly Steely Dan and Elvis Costello, as always, but I recently checked out the Zaire 74: the African Artists. Mobutu-praising aside it is a banger!
If they think you’re crude, go technical; if they think you’re technical, go crude. I’m a very technical boy. So I decided to get as crude as possible. :ugeek:

Of late I've been bumping the Black Crowes album Warpaint, it's a favourite.

And I'm perennially listening to Joanna Newsom's Have One on Me
Peter Corbeau's Second Strongest Soldier

Listening to a lot of soundtracks recently, I find it's very helpful while I'm doing TTRPG preparations. The Shadowrun Trilogy has a lot of great tracks for, you guessed it, the Shadowrun game I'm planning, I've been listening to a lot of SW mixes for my upcoming Rebel campaign (post Hoth, pre Endor), Starsector's soundtrack is pretty basic but I like it & it puts me in the headspace for my Traveller preparations, and the Age of Empires 2 OST is my favorite for when I'm planning my fantasy game I'll probably not run for another few years. All of these make for good listening while I'm at work, too.

According to stats for Spotify, my 3 top artists right now are the composer of the Age of Empires 2 soundtrack, GZA, and Le Sserafim. My three sides all in a row.

I somehow have found myself listening to the Finnish eurovision contestants from the past few years (Käärijä, Erika Vikman, and now their most recent entrant Linda Lampenius/Pete Parkkonen) alongside the new Gaerea album that came out a few weeks ago. Kind of a strange combo but I'm loving all of it

Well, if you're in the mood for more Finnish music, you might get a kick out of Maustetytöt. I found them ages ago and enjoy going back to them every now and then.

One of my favorite songs from them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ljq16G060s

Listened to Paul McCartney's Egypt station last night. The album became a bit of a joke in my mind because the only full song I heard before listening to the full album was fuh you but then upon listening to the album I realized that it's actually good and not a joke

Been thinking a lot about the Artemis II launch, and the bravery it takes to be on a mission like that.

There's an album called 'Departure Songs' by the band We Lost The Sea. The first album the band would write as an instrumental outfit after the passing of their vocalist, it "is inspired by failed, yet epic and honourable journeys or events throughout history where people have done extraordinary things for the greater good of those around them, and the progress of the human race itself." (from the album page on the band's Bandcamp page)
The last two songs on the record form a duo, inspired by the Challenger disaster.

I know this is sort of morbid, but I'm coming back to this album and these songs this evening with a sense of hope and wonder. Space travel and exploration is so complicated, so fraught with danger. Every single person who goes up knows the human cost that they place as a bet, knows of the times those bets have been lost. Yet they heed the call regardless, all just to learn a little bit more about our universe.
Truly, they are some of the best of us.
