Thoughts on the Legacy comics?

Personally I have mixed feelings on them?

I think they definitely have their highs, but mostly it's lows for me. More importantly, I think Jan Duursema might be in the closet. I've seen how she draws women. Is there something you'd like to tell us, Ms. Duursema?

I broadly like them, but they do suffer from 2000s Dark Horse Edge

I’m guilty of being a big Legacy fan lol… Cade isn’t the best and I find it a little too edgy sometimes, but gosh I just love the era and factions and how they decided to communicate it all. The Ossus Project and the Vong’s prominent involvement are great- Legacy makes NJO feel like the absolute foundation of the era. Like, theoretically you could ignore everything that happens between The Unifying Force and Legacy and the continuity is pretty much spot on.

only read the first few issues (#faker) and then forgot about it until now so maybe this is my sign to get back to it. I remember thinking they were very stupid but in a way that was silly and endearing. I thought a very specific moment in time was captured let's just say that

To be honest, I loved Legacy. Though it has its issues. I don’t love how underdeveloped most of the side characters are. Especially the women. Some of the pacing is a bit rapid in the latter half. But I really appreciate the Mynock crew (I wish we spent more time with Syn and Deliah), the factions, character designs, world-building, and Duursema’s art (which is stunning).

Ostrander and Duursema are master storytellers, the 1998/Republic runs are testaments to that. I felt that was best displayed in the front half of Legacy, which I found to be ann incredible page turner with great plots. It helps that A’Sharad Hett is like the coolest dude under the suns.

Overall, I think Cade is a pretty well-written character. I agree with the others here that the run, and by extension Cade, is a bit over-the-top andedgy at times. But I mostly find it endearing in the sense of the story being a great little time capsule for the tones of 2000s comics.

I think they suffer from early 2000s edge and goofiness, but despite doing ANOTHER Jedi Purge and bringing the Empire back I think they are actually interested in moving the world of Star Wars forward and making things weird and strange. It also helps that Legacy is one of the few post-NJO works to remember the Vong exist and actually use them!

What are the fics?

'Legacy's Edge' and 'Legacy's End' by handofthrawn45 on ao3 or ffnet. Former fills the gap between Fate of the Jedi and the Legacy comics, latter takes place after the Legacy comics and deals with the loose plot threads from both comic runs and rounds out the story.
